Brew Review 13#

Rogue

Dead Guys Ale

This is one beer from my youth that I still fucking love.  Not like the new castles, blue moons, or Guinness's, this beer still has a soft spot in my heart.  Drunk nights, sketchy people, and oxblood boots, and this beer.  I don't really know what to say, its a great Ale, that I thoroughly enjoy, and listening to the right 80's British and American patriotic music makes me get goose bumps and think of how this beer has stood the test of time, or ten years haha.  Buy it, I enjoy it, you will to, so listen fucker.

Brew Review #12

Lagunitas

Imperial Stout

Its beens a long time since I've had a Stout, and sipping this one by Lagunitas made me shutter and get goose bumps, all good things.  The taste is there, coffee, chocolate, and just the dark goodness of this beer.  I actually started with dark beers when I was youngblood, back almost 11 years ago.  This is a great Stout, made by a people (Lagunitas) who know how to make a fucking beer.  As I write this, im sipping on it, and fucking wondering why I ever stopped drinking dark beer.  Oh yeah, I didn't want to end up a fat fuck!  Get this beer, its pretty rad, you fat fuck.

Stella Artois

(yea that one)

Stella Artios, its pretty good.  I was given this brew and two glasses as a gift from a relative of mine who knew I couldn't deny a smooth drinkable beer.  I had this beer back in like 2009 or whatever, thought nothing special of it, still don't, but it is drinkable, it isn't bad, but it isn't out of this world.  Now this person who gave me this to me is near and dear to this bitter son of a bitches heart, so I wont rip this beer a new one, seeing how Im more of a IPA and super dark beer lover, but you cant go wrong with a classic, its stale, its on the level, and its no thrills. Nuff said, buy it, or don't.  I didn't, and Im liking it to not throw it away.

Ska Brewing

Modus Hoperandi IPA

(Phone was dead, had to get a pic off of Google, you get the deal)

I like this beer, its good entry level IPA, not overly high on the AP scale, but its okay.  There isn't really any bite to the beer towards the end, I didn't feel the good goosebumps I get when I try a fucking rad beer or listen to a fucking awesome band.  Side note, I don't really like ska music, but I do like one band called Bad Manners, which Ska Brewing has a song title of theres on the can that reads "Lip Up Fatty".  Wanted to like this beer, its mediocre, nothing to crazy, but it is good in its own mediocre right.

Dales Pale Ale

I bought this Pale Ale after seeing it featured on some show called Brew Dogs, or whatever the fuck it was called, it was on the Entourage or whatever channel where metrosexual men go to find out how to pluck there eye brows and wear leather jeans or whatever the fuck todays lost sexually confused Generation does.  Off point, saw this beer at the secret spot on Sunset Blvd, me and a bud had wanted to kick a few of these bad boys back, so I bought a sixer, long story short, it wasn't a waste.  I literally drank it, and the first thing I got was goosebumps at how fucking good this Pale Ale is, the taste, the subtle hits of winters on the African Plains, Im fucking with you, its a great Pale Ale, not to heavy, not to light, just right.  Buy it, or don't, you Budweiser drinking Fat slob.

IPA Festival and a Soul Night

Okay, well this was one fucked night, in the best possible way.  Meet up with a dear bud of mine, blah blah blah we pre gamed at my house with another old school bud of ours, couple Lagunitas and a quick chug of the some pretty standard shit from Stone Brewery, and we were off.  First stop, the Los Angeles IPA Festivals.

LA IPA Festival

So me and my two buds show up, place is littered with pretentious little fucks talking about this and that about IPAs, I laugh and my main man (a girl) orders us the first round, like the champ she is.
Some beer called Tap It IPA, doesn't make a good impression, me and the buds agree, fuck that one.  We move on after we choke it down, next ones Sour Bash or whatever, better, but not by much.  My chic friend gets us a few IPA Fest to commemorate our drunken night, and Im glad she did.

Soul Night

We end up at a Soul Night, full of weird dancing and such.  Had a Golden Road IPA, didn't like it, so didn't my bud, moved on.  To many people wearing vintage clothing dreaming of a past time, that wasn't as better as today.  We had a couple more, and moved on, already pretty drunk and ready for shenanigans.

Noble Ale Works

Big Wig IPA

After a long weekend at the IPA Festival in Los Angeles my taste buds cried for another IPA, so I headed down to some little spot on Sunset where I buy choice brews (don't ask me where you fuck, I wont tell) and I picked this brew up (among others). Tastes pretty good, but there isn't that bite.  The low alcohol percentage might be the reason, I don't fucking know, buts its and okay beer.  No pretentiousness or any of that shit, there are better IPAs out there that have a hell of a lot of kick, go find um, or come on my blog, and Ill show you them, you fuck.

Brew Review 7#

DogfishHead

90 Minute Imperial IPA

This is perfection.  Like most beer loving people out there, I watched Brewmasters and fell in love with DogfishHead Brewery.  To me, it was a Brewery that went against the grain, from what the other big name breweries had been doing for decades.  I love this brewery, now, coming from me that isn't a lot, but I think I know a little about beers (I have been drinking since I was a bald headed kid in Doc Martin boots), and this beer is fucking mint.  Ill buy this brew till the day I die, because if its Dogfish Head, you know its quality.

Brewtality Bar Review 2#

Lock & Key

239 S Vermont Ave, Los Angeles, CA 90004

Bars pretty okay, they enforce the dress code, don't come in sketchy shirts or shorts, because you wont get in.  Okay, well, you walk in, and youre faced with a wall of doorknobs.  You've gotta find the one that opens the door, pretty easy, unless youre shitfaced, I (as well as my merry band of drunks) wasn't, just yet.  So you walk into a room full of mostly hipster girls and dudes in douchebag button ups and what not, not a problem, they have an alright selection of Beer, and mix drinks for your lady friend (or if your some dude who likes to be called a wimp for drinking mix drinks).  Its an okay bar, nice little spot if you want to drive out of your way to kick back a few and watch the bar maids fucking stumble on orders.  Its a meh from me

Pros
-Decent price for drinks
-Cute hipster chics around
-Bartenders are awesome

Cons
-Bars in a bad part of town
-Dress code is enforced, which is good (to keep out the cholos and gangbangers)
-Bar waitresses are useless when it comes to getting you drinks.

Brewtality Score-  5...No, its a 4 (waitresses suck)

Brew Review 7#

Eagle Rock Brewery

Revolution XPA

What the hells an XPA?  Extra Pale Ale you stupid fuck.  So I was having dinner with family one night last week, long story short I decided to make a trip to the Eagle Rock Brewery to grab one of there growlers, 30 bucks for the bigger growler with a first fill.  Filled it with Revolution XPA, didn't like the IPA last time I tried it, but I did like the XPA, so it was a match made in heaven.  The beers really crisp, even now a week later the beer tastes fantastic.  So in short, Buy the XPA, its good, not the IPA, that sucks.  Nuff said.

Lagunitas

Born Yesterday Pale Ale

Lagunitas Born Yesterday Pale Ale, well, its fucking good.  Good enough for this stubborn fuck to go out of my way to find it.  I have a instagram, bro I follow vouched by it so I gave it a shot, and was hooked.  It is the most crisp fucking Pale Ale I've ever fucking had.  It hit my lips like a burst of fucking hops, and just the smell of it poured in a glass would make any Hop Head climax into a wad of toilet paper.  This is my go to Pale Ale now, nuff said, I don't waste my money on shit beer, so if Im telling you to buy this beer, then fucking do it, or you could be like the rest of your buddies drinking piss water, I know youre better then that, hell, Im better then that, so do yourself a favor, buy this fucking Pale Ale, yuh bastard.

Kona Brewing

Big Wave Golden Ale

Picked this up at Fresh and Easy about a week ago, figured Id try it and write a review on it. Beers a pretty straight forward Ale, nothing to write home about.  I'm not a Hawaiian, and I have no reason to visit that fucking island, so if you're broke and don't want to save, buy this beer, its a no thrills kinda beer, like Blue Moon.  Buy it, or don't, I don't care

Eagle Rock Brewery

Populist IPA

I wanted to like this brew, I loved my trip to the Brewery, and I loved the XPA they offered, but nope, I just couldn't.  I cracked open this bad boy after a long day, poured it into a fancy fucking beer glass, and sipped.  Mediocre, well, the taste was good, but the bite at the end faded way to fucking quickly, and for a IPA, it lacked integrity.  Fucking shit, look at me, busting out my big words on this review.  I chugged the remaining bottle, and came to terms with the fact that, a brewery that I love, not pleasing me on the IPA front, fuckin aye.

Brewtality Bar Review #1

The Cha Cha

2375 Glendale Blvd
Los Angeles, CA 90039
Silver Lake

So, how the hell did I end up at a once gay bar in the heart of hipster country (Silver Lake/Eagle Rock)?  Easy, the drinks are cheap.  Place is mostly filled with hipster kids listening to thug rap music or what not, pretentious hipsters who listen to NWA and go to art walks?  Yeah, that's the crowd.  Bartenders are nice enough, atmosphere, is, well, pretty gay.  First drink I had was a PBR, partly because I knew I was going to have some quality shit later on, and didn't want to waste my cash on the usual Golden Road IPA "safe choice", so I went with PBR.  You can wear whatever the hell you want when coming here, I was dressed pretty sketch and the bouncer with a cold, and idiotic face tattoos, didn't care.  You'll see the occasional thugged out mex/black/azn/Armen/ whatever else, but for the most part, its whatever.

Pros

Drinks Are Cheap
Good starter bar for those new to the area
Hipsters galore, hell I hate hipster culture, but they do have some lookers among them, no shame in admitting that.

Cons

If your accepting of gay culture, youll do fine, if not, then don't go.
Pretentiousness level (7)
They only play rap music, so if you wanted to hear some old school DC hardcore and or alternative (Husker du/faugazi) then youre out of fucking luck.

Brewtality Score- 5

Beer Review 3#

Sierra Nevada Pale Ale

I have a love/hate relationship with this beer.  In some ways, it’s like Newcastle, in the way that I had it when I was young and now hate it because the taste reminds me of my drunken youth.  And I love, because it’s a fucking good Pale Ale.  It’s pretty smooth, with a little bite that fades quickly, so it’s for the lighter weight people I guess.  First time I had this beer was at a show, some shitty band was playing, and my bald head 15 year old ass feel in love with this brew.  So if youre a 15 year old punk kid, youll be glad you got this instead of the cheap black Hobo 2-11 beers out there.  A nice walk down memory lane, but, better pale ales out there, no doubt.  Its like an old fucking song you hate now, but you secretly still love (Marky Mark and the Funky Bunch).  Buy it, or don’t, I don’t give a fuck.

Beer(ish) Review 2#

Fruli (Not just for woman or dainty men anymore)

I was out one night, grabbing a drink at a local (hipster) German sausage joint, person I was with asked me what she should have, pointed to the most girly sounding drink on the menu, boy was I wrong!  Well, half wrong.  The drinks pretty girly, but not Smirnoff girly, you wouldn’t be fucking laughed at if you covered the label and such.  Also, word to the wise, don’t pour it into a glass, it pours a dark pinkish color, so your giving your buds enough ammunition for the rest of the night.  All that shit aside, it’s a pretty tasty “beer”, if you don’t want to drive to the store and your girls got a few left, down um and make yourself go out and buy a real brew.

Life And Limb/Rhizing Bines

This fine fucking beer comes to you, by way of two breweries, Sierra Nevada and Dog Fish head.  I first had this beer a couple of months ago at some buds barbeque, surprised that some dude who had no idea what an IPA was, actually bought something other Bud Light or Newcastle.  It’s smooth, with a bit of a kick.  Personally, anything associated with DogFish Head, in my book, is fucking golden.  Look up the brewery (Dogfish Head) and you’ll see why, those fucking dudes know how to crank out quality brews.  Nuff said, go out, buy this fucking IPA, its good, and it’s worth every penny.  So don’t be a cheap fuck and buy some piss water, quality instead of quantity.

Intro To The Blog

I am no beer connoisseur, just a middle class man who loves to wet his whistle with fine craft beer.  I, by no means, should be a reliable source for beer advice, but hell, here I am.  I listen to sketchy music, and I'm politically incorrect, so here we go, Welcome to Brewtality, real beer for real people, none of that fancy shit.
